John Schick, Ph.D., founded Psychiatric Alternatives in 2011 to provide patients with a seamless care experience, including comfortable and beautiful offices, smooth and easy administration of payment and scheduling, and meaningful collaboration among Psychiatrists and Psychologists. John studied psychology at an early age, reading great thinkers such as Freud, Jung and Rogers. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Sonoma State University magna cum laude, and followed with seminal experiences working at Esalen Institute and studying with Charlotte Selver. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The California School of Professional Psychology.
Through his experiences in private practice and working for the State of California and other organizations, John discovered how institutionalized mental health care limited patient experience and outcomes. John was inspired by patients’ desire to feel better and make their own lives better. He has a deep belief in the potential of patients, doctors and team members to develop contentment and impact.
John founded Psychiatric Alternatives and Wellness Center to elevate patient experience and doctor satisfaction through a seamless approach to practice management, intake, payment and doctor collaboration.
The Psychiatric Alternatives model succeeded, leading to offices across the Bay Area and high demand from doctors wishing to join the practice. John sums it up: “We help thousands of people feel better with excellent care, and we make it affordable.”
Today, John serves as President & CEO of Psychiatric Alternatives, and he excels at identifying great doctors who want to help patients and enjoy our seamless practice approach. John leads our work to provide a wonderful practice environment for doctors, including management of offices and business affairs, so that doctors can focus on patient care. He excels at finding the right spaces to transform into welcoming and beautiful settings for care and bring Psychiatrists and Psychologists under one roof to enhance collaboration.
John leads development of a caring and confident administrative team who are ready to resolve challenges and support patients and doctors, and he is known as a good listener and coach. He remains a hands-on entrepreneur, leading key initiatives including Recruiting and IT.
On weekends, John enjoys time with his family. He is an experienced beekeeper and builder and enjoys hiking in Northern California.
Casey holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Psychology cum laude from the University of California at Berkeley. Casey ensures that each patient receives appropriate insurance benefits and manages our partner relationships with insurers. Casey implements part of our online presence and manages business operations that support our comfortable and beautiful offices. These are a hallmark of our patient and doctor experience. In her leisure time, Casey enjoys knitting and bicycling.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Nutrition from California State Polytechnic University. Laura champions the patient experience at Psychiatric Alternatives; she manages the intake and established patient teams to bring smiling support to scheduling, providing easy and responsive service that’s a pleasure to experience. Laura assists new doctors as they join Psychiatric Alternatives and is committed to developing a great practice setting for Psychiatrists and Psychologists. After work, Laura enjoys training for and running weekend marathons, including The Tent City Marathon.
